TOURNAMENT TRAIL

The Ego Fishing Open

June 18th, 2022 on Lake St Helen

TOURNAMENT RESULTS

Top Bass Tournament Trail held its third tournament of the 2022 season on Lake St. Helen.

The tournament went out of the St. Helen ramp (old DNR ramp), and weighed in just west of there.

This tournament was named “The EGO Fishing Open” after one of our great sponsors.

The weather for the tournament was cold at the start (43) and warmed up to the 70’s by weigh-in. The winds started out at about 9-12 mph and stayed at about 10 mph most of the day. The 2 days before the tournament the winds blew at 18-22 mph with gusts over 45mph. Really stirred up the lake.

Because of the lake conditions due to the winds, fishing was very tough. Only 93 bass came to the scales with 92 returning to the lake, and only 6 being over 3 pounds. We had 23 anglers who did not weigh-in, of the 45 boats in the tournament.

A special Thank You, to the St. Helen Chamber of Commerce and Township Police Chief for their help with getting a weigh-in location after the Richfield Township voted to not allow us to hold a tournament on their property.

Congratulations to Kevin Vida, from Clare, who took 1st Place, with a 5 fish limit for 12.13#. Elmer Daniels, from Jackson, finished in 2nd Place with 4 bass that totaled 11.61#, and was anchored by Big Bass for the tournament, a nice 5.42# largemouth. 3rd Place went to Jim Baker, from Bay City with a limit at 11.13#. Matt Mosby, from Dryden, held down 4th Place with a limit at 10.96#. Tom Shoemaker Jr. had a limit for 10.61# to finish in 5th Place. Thanks to all, for dealing with where we had to register & weigh-in.
