TOURNAMENT RESULTS

Top Bass Tournament Trail held their 3rd tournament of the season June 13th, 2026 on Houghton Lake. The tournament launched out of the West DNR Ramp.  The event was named “The Humminbird & Minn Kota Open”, after one of our very good sponsors.

The West Launch area was very congested with another event being held that date.  It was a free fishing day for the kids, and Houghton Lake Assn. held a big event with hundreds of people.  They used about 60% of the parking area.  Our start went OK, but coming in was very congested.  The little bay area, where we would park boats, had the back half used by the other group with a net across it.  They had 400 bluegills delivered on Friday, and put into the area enclosed by the net, for the kids to catch on Saturday for their event.

Even with both groups having a permit for that area (DNR mistake), we both worked past it, and had a successful day and event.

The weather for the tournament started off cloudy and windy, with a few rain drops.  The winds picked up as the day went on, with winds over 16 mph at the end.  The lake was very rough.  

The fishing was tough with the winds and water conditions.  There were only 18 limits that came to the scales.  Only 2 bass over 4 pounds came to be weighed in.

Congratulations to John Franko, from Clare, who won this tournament with a nice limit that hit the scales at 15.84#.  I would have thought that his dog Grizz would of had a hard time staying in the boat, with the tough water conditions.  Second Place went to Elmer Daniels, from Jackson with a limit at 15.47#.  Just shows that even an old man can get lucky and stumble across some nice fish. Lol   Third Place went to Michael Sielinski, from Gladwin with a limit at 15.42#.  Scott Tyrell, from White Lake, took Fourth Place with 13.94#.  Big Bass for the tournament went to Steve Slackta, from Grand Blanc, with a huge largemouth that turned the scales at 6 pounds even.  Great Job Steve.  This 6# bass takes over the lead for Biggest Bass of the Season

*SPECIAL CHALLENGE TOURNAMENTS – Frank’s Great Outdoors is sponsoring 2 regular one day tournaments with an added Challenge Tournament format (Optional).  For an added $30 on June 27th (Lake St Helen), you will be entered into the 2 lake Challenge tournament.  Total weight from both Challenges (Lake St Helen June 27th & Missaukee Lake July 11th), will determine the winners.  Payout for the Challenge – 1 in 7, with  sponsor adding $$$$ to that prize fund.  You can still fish the June 27th & July 11th tournaments, without entering the Challenge.  The Challenge is optional.
