TOURNAMENT RESULTS
Shoe’s Top Bass Tournament Trail held its 8th tournament of the 2023 season on the Saginaw River/ limited Bay. The tournament went out of the Independence Bridge launch, by the USS Edison.
This tournament was named “The Dick’s Sporting Goods Open” after one of our great sponsors. Dick’s Sporting Goods has been one of our very loyal sponsors, for many years. So whenever you have any sporting goods needs, check them out first, you won’t be sorry that you did.
The tournament weather was partly cloudy with about average winds and temps, near 50 at the start, then warming up to around 80.
The fishing for the tournament was very tough. With all the rain that came down on Thursday, the river and bay looked more like hot chocolate, very dirty looking. That created some very tough conditions to fish in. As a result, less than half the tournament field, were able to limit out, as only 22 limits came to the scales. There were many with 1-4 fish, and a total of 18 that did not weigh-in a fish.
Congratulations to Andy Maier, from Midland, who won this event, with a nice limit that turned the scales at 15.32#. Second Place when to Jeff Plutt, from Houghton Lake, with 14.85#. John Franko, was just behind Jeff, with a limit for 14.55#, good for 3rd Place. In Fourth Place, we had Billy Booth, from Midland with 14.34#. Right behind Billy, was Elmer Daniels, from Jackson, with 14.21#. Sixth Place went to Mark Reinke, from Gladwin, with 14.08#, which included Big Bass for the tournament at 5.08#.
A special Thank You, to Dick’s Sporting Goods, for being the title sponsor of this event.
